Dr Mc Intyre has lived ,and worked in general practice, in the area for 20 years, and has run the practice for the last 5 years. She qualified in London (St Bartholomew's Hospital), and trained first of all in paediatrics, working at King's College Hospital and Guy's Hospital in London, and as paediatric registrar at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford , holding the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in paediatrics and child health. She then went to Sudan in 1987 to run a medical programme in a refugee camp, where she met her husband Conal. After several years in Sudan she completed general practice training in Scotland and came to live in her husband's home village of Glencolmcille. She also holds the Certificate in Family Planning and Membership of the Irish College of General Practitioners.

Dr Hegarty ran the practice single-handedly, with the assistance of his wife Marie, for many years, and is very familiar to everyone in the area. He works several days a month in the practice.
